Village ISO Rating Improves In 2010

Early in 2010, the Village was audited by the Insurance Services Office (ISO). During the audit the Village was required to provide information on water supply/delivery; data regarding calls for service and 911 emergency responses; and training and inspection records for review. ISO uses this information to establish a fire protection rating. Scoring is based on a ten point system with a one being the best and ten being the worst. These ratings are used by a number of insurance companies to assign risk to homes and businesses when calculating insurance premiums for Fire Loss. A lower ISO rating usually equates to premium savings for residents and businesses.

Over the past several years the Village Fire and Water Departments have made enhancements to our infrastructure and public safety services. As a result, the Village’s fire protection rating has improved. Prior to the 2009, the Village had an ISO Rating of 5 in hydranted areas and 9 in non-hydranted areas. The most recent audit shows a marked improvement. The Village received a new classification of 2 in hydranted areas. Nationally only .7% of municipalities have a rating of 2 with even fewer having a 1 (.1%).

The Village advises residents and businesses to provide this information when discussing insurance rates. If you have any questions regarding our ISO rating please contact the Village offices at 468-5225.

Village Board Approves Road Referendum Ballot Language

The Village Board of Trustees recently approved at their July 14th meeting, draft ballot language for an upcoming November referendum. The language will be forwarded to the State for review and approval. If approved by the State Election Board, the language will be placed on the November ballot. If the language is not approved by the State, changes will most likely be made to accommodate the State's requirements.

In January, the Village Board created a steering committee with the purpose of drafting ballot language to determine the Village's future special assessment policy in relation to road and right-of-way improvements. The steering committee, made-up of entirely village residents has been meeting regularly since January to develop the language. The committee completed their draft ballot language and submitted a final report to the Village Board back in June. You can read the committee's final report on the Village's website.

The approved draft ballot language is as follows:

Proposed Binding Referendum Ballot Language:

Under State Law, the increase in the levy of the Village of Bellevue for the tax to be imposed for the next fiscal year (2011) is limited to 3% which results in a levy of $2,469,878. Shall the Village of Bellevue be allowed to exceed this limit and increase the levy for the next fiscal year (2011) and on an ongoing basis, by a total of 14.2%, which results in a levy of $2,819,878, for the purpose of generating sufficient revenue to fund 35% of the costs associated with the reconstruction or resurfacing of existing roads which will reduce (by an equal percentage) the special assessments currently charged to property owners for planned road work. This will not include new development or the urbanization of rural roads.

A "YES" VOTE WILL ALLOW THE VILLAGE OF BELLEVUE TO EXCEED THE LEVY LIMIT AND INCREASE THE LEVY FOR THE NEXT FISCAL YEAR, 2011, BY A TOTAL OF 14.2% WHICH RESULTS IN A LEVY OF $2,819,878.

A "NO" VOTE WILL NOT ALLOW THE VILLAGE OF BELLEVUE TO EXCEED THE LEVY LIMIT.

(YES) (NO)

Bellevue Firefighters Raise Over $1,500 For MDA

The Bellevue Fire Department raised over $1,500 to help battle neuromuscular disease during the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual Fill-the-Boot event June 26.

The firefighters removed their boots at Festival Foods, 2534 Steffens Court in Bellevue and accepted donations from area customers, motorists, and pedestrians. In just four hours, the department raised $1,536.

MDA would like to thank the Bellevue firefighters for their hard work and dedication. All of the money raised will help benefit local MDA clients and services like sending children and young adults to MDA Summer Camp, clinic visits, and wheelchair purchases and repairs.

MDA’s Fill-the-Boot program is supported by fire departments across North America. Last year, Wisconsin fire fighters raised $600,000 for MDA.

MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services and far-reaching professional and public health education. For more information about MDA’s programs and services, call (920) 499-4571.
